With Jon Smith still not able to marshal/comm and a late entry from me here is my MTBeast round up for yesterday.
Sunshine, a brisk breeze (mostly tailwind) and a very dry course – conditions were absolutely great for Round 6 of the MTB East Series at Potash Wood. The Rovers were ready, with a mighty 14 riders entered in various categories
For me this was my second-ever MTB race, my first time on the full ‘long course’ format, and just to make it extra memorable, my first-ever ride on a mountain bike with front suspension. Huge thanks to Simon Angier for very kindly lending me his (wife’s!) bike.
A twisty woodland loop peppered with gnarly tree roots, technical features, and a rather epic bridge you had to go under and over. Oh, and let’s not forget what felt like an entire badger set of holes to avoid.
Here’s how the Rovers rolled:
Under 7 Male: A strong 2nd and 8th
Under 7 Female: Amazing 8th
Under 9 Male: 2nd in a very large field
Under 12 Male: A tight-knit trio – 6th, 9th, and 10th
Under 14 Male: Against a big field, a 3rd and 7th
Under 14 Female: Super 2nd place
Fun Male: Simon (a.k.a. The Bike Lender and Bridge Pursuer in the photo) in 5th
Elite Male: Another blistering performance from Daniel Hall in 4th
Elite Female: Alexandra Hennessy flying into 3rd
As for me – proudly flying the flag in the Fun Female category. That picture of me may look like someone having the time of their life, but that smile was a cocktail of joy and terror – aka ‘fun’!
Did I fall off? Of course I did! That’s my official excuse for not catching the ladies in front. But now I have a few wounds to show off for the next few days
So here’s to MTB East Round 6: Thanks to everyone who raced, cheered and lent bikes.
Next round: Sunday 8th June @ Twisted Oaks, Ipswich.
Photos thanks to: @mtbeast and @basilthornton
PS. If I have missed anyone please let me know 🙂 x
