Youth Cyclocross

#crossiscoming

What is Cyclocross?

Cyclocross is a fun and exciting branch of the sport that is ideal for children and young adults. It involves riding a drop-handlebar bike with nobbly tyres (but mountain bikes are absolutely fine too!) around a course similar to a cross-country running course, normally in a park or school field. It is an excellent introduction to the sport as it is easily accessible but at the same time teaches some great techniques – many of the best riders in the world like Wout Van Aert, Mathieu Van Der Poel and GB’s very own Tom Pidcock all race cyclocross!

UPDATE: We are excited to announce that our cyclocross sessions will be starting on 28th August at Hillyfields in Colchester and will run each Saturday morning, except on those dates that we are running the Centurion Series of races at the Northern Gateway. Meet point is Sussex Road Co3 3QJ. Sessions will initially run from 0900-1100 at a cost of £5 per rider. PLEASE NOTE: Because this is a new series of events you will need to complete a NEW parental consent form EVEN IF YOUR DETAILS HAVE NOT CHANGED. This is to comply with GDPR regulations.

Competing

Naturally, many riders will have a competitive urge and we are lucky to have a very comprehensive series of races every winter via the Eastern Cyclocross League.

Colchester Rovers are always very well represented and these are a great way to meet other riders and parents, as well as being a nice day out! The emphasis is always on having fun and trying your best. The races cater for children as young as five, all the way up to over 60s with races for the youngest participants typically lasting around ten minutes.

Contacts

We would recommend joining the Colchester Rovers Youth page on Facebook. This is often the best and easiest place to get up-to-the-minute information on what’s going on.
