Matt Haigh @ CRCC Open 10 – 5th April 2026

A successful and well-supported Open 10 took place on the E7/10e course (Tendring), with Wix Village Hall once again proving to be an excellent HQ.

Riders were advised of the usual Essex road surface imperfections, along with details parked cars through Great Oakley, Little Oakley and Dovercourt. Despite being a cool day (around 10°C with a moderate south-westerly wind), the conditions and visibility otherwise were good.

We had 28 entrants, with 24 riders taking to the start line and all 24 finishing safely. This included 12 CRCC riders and 7 female competitors.

Prizes were awarded to male and female 1st, 2nd and 3rd places and this was further separated into TT and road bike categories. Quite a few prize winners were from CRCC which was great to see.

Thanks go to our long-standing timekeepers, John Cottee and Len Gordon, who reported no issues at either the start or finish, and to the numerous volunteers from the club who helped make the event run smoothly

I also want to say extend an even bigger thanks to Steve Little, Dave Scrimshaw and Ed Page who worked with me through the pre-season to get us ready for the new Club TT season with the new admin, timing and results systems, and who ran the pre-season recce rides.

Don’t forget….we run weekly Wednesday night club time trials and a few other TT events during the year, which are open to all members—whether you want to ride, help out, or just see how things work. Everyone is very welcome!

Time Trial dates for your diary

  • Weekly Wednesday nights from now until Wednesday 26th August (Peldon, Layer and Tendring courses)
  • Interclub TTs with Sudbury – Thursday 21st May (Lavenham) and Wednesday 8th July (Tendring)
  • Open 25TT – Sunday 21st June (Birch)
  • Hill Climb – Sunday 6th September (Burnt Dick Hill)

You can view and enter any of the TT events here

Looking ahead, one area of concern remains the shortage of qualified timekeepers. With John indicating his intention to retire, the club is in real need of members willing to train as timekeepers or assistant timekeepers to support future events.

More details to come on this in a future newsletter.

Meanwhile I hope to see you at a TT event soon!
