5. Membership
A couple of new and renewal memberships.
It was agreed that Colin didn’t need to ask the people who had given him a cheque for £10 (previous price) for the extra £5 this year.
Justin commented that people were still having trouble joining via the new BC website. Justin to provide bank details and auto approve memberships if needed. It can then be checked at the next committee meeting that they did pay.
It was noted that second‑claim youth membership is still currently unavailable via the British Cycling system.
Action: Nick to reinstate second‑claim youth membership option on the BC system.
6. Youth Team & Youth Development
Simon thanked everyone for their support of the end of year cyclocross relay. Although the event made a small loss this will be picked up by the Eastern League so it will be cost neutral to CRCC.
Simon shared a presentation outlining his proposal to the National Lottery for funding for 2 years to support a CycloCross Training Centre at CNG. This would help to cover the cost of using the facilities, up to 15 new riders including bike hire and 10 targeted sessions (including bike hire) working with local schools.
Simon also proposed a new CX venue, in Edwardstone, near Boxford that is being kindly offered to Rovers free of charge from the family who own the farm. They have said that any profits to be donated back to the CRCC Youth team. It was agreed that this was a great opportunity.
7. Road & Circuit Racing
Jock Wadley Road Race planning is well underway. Entries are full at 80 riders.
Paul and Sandra have agreed to manage a new ‘litter drop zone’ which will be clearly marked.
All officials are not in place but Nick does still require two more red flag marshals (and ideally 3 more) to meet the race requirements.
The event will make a small loss as there is no sponsorship. Currently outgoings £3,100.00 and incoming £2,750.00.
ReCycle charity will be advertised in the programme.
Actions: Nick to finalise all details including meeting with the comms tomorrow (3rd March), distributing the race programme and filling in some potholes on Saturday.
Julie to keep posting to request marshals.
Centurion/CNG track races
Tony Asplin memorial race at CNG on 18th April, organised by Simon, now has around £500 of entries.
Back to school races at CNG on 30th August, organised by Greg, are now on the BC website. Greg and Simon have been approached by Neil Irons from Cycle Club Hackney who is coordinating the Eastern Region Youth Circuit Series. He asked if they wanted to include the two events above within this. It was agreed that this was a great idea.
Action: Race organisers to send Maggie the BC race code so she can link race entries in the accounts to the correct race
8. Sportive
Paul will start to send out more advertising and requests for help after the Jock Wadley
9. Time Trials
Matt created a flyer to advertise the upcoming TT season and also share the dates for the ‘Welcome to Time Trials’ sessions with Ed. The 3 sessions will be 14th, 21st and 28th March.
The poster was updated (courtesy of Justin and AI!) to add CRCC kit and Matt will send this out to other clubs in the area.
The first TT on 5th April already has enough entries to go ahead
Action: Matt to distribute the flyer
10. Safeguarding
There is a current safeguarding incident being dealt with relating to second claim member of the youth team. Simon has been in contact with BC previously and is waiting to hear back from the club the parent is associated with.
The outstanding DBS renewals from last month are either in progress or completed.
Action: Jackie to continue to contact individuals and manage renewals as needed
11. Any Other Business
Malcolm advised Brian Clarke had sadly passed away. Brian was previously a CRCC member and Cat1 rider. His funeral will be held at Colchester Crematorium on 11th March at 11:45am.
Simon showed a poster that Tom Starmer had created giving a Cyclocross Coaching and Development summary relating to a survey that the Youth team had completed previously.
Jon Smith sent apologies but sent the off-road/MTB report below:
“We had a very enjoyable trip up Thetford in February and it was well attended and everyone enjoyed it.
Hopefully the worst of the wet is starting to pass so we can get out off-road a bit more!
The MTBeast series starts at the end of the month. I have put up an invite on FB for a ‘pre-ride’ evening that is happening the Wednesday before the first round.
I am also thinking about holding a Fordham intro level meet up this month. Details to be published soon.”
