On Sunday 21st August the Colchester Rovers ran a memorial race for Tony Asplin who passed last year.
We ran the races at the Colchester sports park starting with the Masters 40+ category, won by Ashley Harvey of STAYAR RACING, all the way through to the E/1/2/3.
It was a great day with lots of entries on the line, including a couple of first-time racers, one of which Louis Genin, Colchester Rovers, who won the 4th Cat race with a sprint finish for the line with Velo Schills Eddie Doherty who finished just a wheel behind securing a great second place.
In the ladies’ race Mathilde Pauls of LAKA Pedal Mafia RT, pulled an impressive solo attack off the front eventually leading to a huge time advantage that the field were unable to claw back, meaning Mathilde crossed the line first, and local star Clover Murray securing a solid second place.
The afternoon saw the E/1/2/3 race with the biggest field of the day, early on 3 riders attacked off the front which included race winner James Ambrose-Parish from TAAP Racing.
The race saw a crash with two riders down, but both managed to walk away relatively unscathed but it meant the local Velo Schill riders Cam Hurst and Pete Fuller losing a little time and finishing 13th and 23rd respectively.
We believe Tony would have loved and been very proud of the event we ran in his honour.
